Superintendent of K.M.U.Hospital

ˇ@Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital (KMUH) was established with a tripartite mission of service, teaching and research in 1957. KMUH was accredited by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health as a ˇ§First Class Teaching Hospitalˇ¨ in 1979. Since 1989 the Ministry of Health has reaccredited KMUH to be a ˇ§Medical Centerˇ¨ and ˇ§Teaching Hospitalˇ¨.

ˇ@ˇ@It is my hope that this booklet will give you a brief impression of the medical service, teaching and research at KMUH. In our recent efforts to go above and beyond in pursuit of quality medical care, we have not only integrated many kinds of health care resources for patients and their families, but also provided a patient-centered medical care model for all, including our integrated coronary heart disease care team, somatic-physiological disabled patient care team, childrenˇ¦s rare disease care team, and multidisciplinary care team for the elderly and cancer patients. We have also installed new advanced-technology medical equipment and instruments, such as the low-radiation, high-speed and high-resolution dual source/ dual Energy advanced multi-detector row computed tomography (Siemens Somatom Definition Flash) scanner for medical imaging examinations, the single-photon emission computer tomography (SPECT CT) machine for nuclear medicine check, the hybrid catheterization laboratory bi-panel detector cardiac digital angiography system for cardiovascular medicine and cardiovascular surgery, the positron emission tomography (PET) scanner, and the helical computed tomography scanner.

ˇ@ˇ@In addition to chest and abdominal endoscopic surgery instruments, we plan to introduce more high-technology instruments in the future, such as the Leonardo da Vinci robotic surgical system and the Renaissance computer-aided robotic arm for spine surgery. To reduce the surgery burden and promote better quality of life for patients, we are striving to strengthen minimal and microsurgery. In response to the threat of breast cancer, we have set up a comprehensive functional center, the Womenˇ¦s Breast Health Center, for routine and pre- and post-operative care, ultrasound, and medical imaging checks on the third floor of the Chi-Chuan Building. Through setting up a new, more functional admission service center in the lobby of the Chi-Chuan Building, we hope that these new facilities and service procedures can give patients and personal care providers friendlier, more comfortable, and high-quality service.
