Government, Industry, and Academia Gather to Discuss Smart Healthcare Development and Trends

　　Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital (KMUH) and Kaohsiung 　Medical University hosted the "Resilient Healthcare System and AI Innovation Summit" today (12th July), bringing together leaders and experts from government, industry, and academia to discuss the latest developments and future trends in smart healthcare. KMU healthcare system also showcased its achievements over the past year in smart healthcare, focusing on "Empowering Healthcare Innovation with Smart Medical Devices and AI."

　　Mr. Eric Chen, Chairman of Kaohsiung Medical University, noted that with rapid advancements in technology, AI, big data, and IoT are transforming the healthcare industry. Smart healthcare is not just about technological innovation but also about a new model of healthcare services. Through smart healthcare, KMUH can offer more personalized and precise medical care, improving the accessibility and safety of services. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between industry and academia to further promote smart healthcare and build a comprehensive ecosystem.

　　KMU President Professor Ming-Lung Yu highlighted the university’s direction in smart healthcare development. He explained that Taiwan’s higher education is facing challenges such as digitalization, population decline, sustainability, and changes in social structure. To address these, KMU is working toward its vision of "Future KMU, Leading the Future," aligning with national and local smart healthcare policies.

　　KMUH superintendent Professor Jaw Yuan Wang pointed out that as the first private university hospital in Taiwan and a major medical center in southern Taiwan, KMUH has made remarkable progress in smart healthcare. The integration of AI into various medical fields, including critical care, ICU management, anesthesia, and remote healthcare for rural areas, has significantly enhanced the efficiency and quality of services. The AI platforms developed by KMUH have been implemented to reduce the workload of clinical staff, which in turn increases staff retention.

　　Deputy Minister Dr. Lin Ching-Yi delivered a keynote speech, addressing the challenges posed by Taiwan’s aging population and declining birthrate, and exploring how AI can offer solutions in this context. She emphasized the potential of smart healthcare to improve the efficiency and quality of long-term care services. Following her, Professor Henry Horng-Shing Lu from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University presented his research on AI in smart healthcare, particularly its application in precise screening and diagnosis of heart disease.
