Congrats to KMUH Achieves Re-Certification as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery
To enhance its medical quality and international competitiveness, KMUH, under the leadership of Dr. Jaw-Yuan Wang (then Vice Superintendent), first applied for the SRC (Surgical Review Corporation) certification as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery (COERS) in 2021. In March 2024, the hospital submitted a re-certification application, providing detailed records of robotic surgery cases, medical data, and standard operating procedures for SRC’s review. On-site evaluation was conducted in October 2024.
Dr. Neil Hutcher, SRC’s Chief Medical Officer & Inspector, conducted the evaluation, examining the patient care process, including outpatient consultations, preoperative assessments by anesthesiology, and post-operative care in the operating room, recovery room, and wards. Emergency response mechanisms and clinical pathways were also reviewed to ensure quality and safety in robotic surgery patient care.
The evaluation team highly praised the robotic surgery team’s performance. On October 24, the hospital was officially re-certified as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery (COERS). Additionally, five physicians received the title of Surgeons of Excellence in Robotic Surgery:
- Dr. Ching-Wen Huang (Colorectal Surgery)
- Dr. Ching-Chia Li (Urology)
- Dr. Shu-Pin Huang (Urology)
- Dr. Yung-Shun Juan (Urology)
- Dr. Sheng-Chen Wen (Urology)
In January 2024, our hospital established a Robotic Surgery Center to integrate resources, innovate services, and advance teaching and research in robotic-assisted surgery. Alongside its COERS certification, KMUH is also an internationally certified observation center for colorectal cancer surgery, making it the first and only dual-certified medical center in the nation. KMUH remains committed to providing high-quality medical care and services.
