¡@¡@According to the latest survey by the Ministry of Health and Welfare Taiwan, cancer has topped the list of the ten leading causes of death in Taiwan for 42 consecutive years, underscoring its status as one of the most severe challenges to public health. Precision medicine and personalized healthcare have become key trends in cancer treatment. To achieve the best therapeutic outcomes, biomarker testing can identify cancer cells caused by gene mutations. However, testing for individual genetic mutations one by one is time-consuming and may not meet the urgent demands of clinical treatment.
¡@¡@Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), built upon traditional sequencing methods, is a high-throughput technology that rapidly detects genetic variations in cancer cells. This provides physicians with critical diagnostic insights, enabling timely selection of the most effective drugs and treatments for patients. To help patients gain precious time in their fight against cancer, Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital (referred to as KMU Hospital) will launch a new NGS consultation clinic starting in 2025. Notably, this clinic will be the first to integrate specialized tumor physicians¡Xboth surgical and medical oncologists¡Xacross different cancer types. This approach offers personalized consultations, allowing cancer patients to collaborate with their doctors to determine the optimal treatment plan tailored to their needs.
