Clerkship program for Foreign Student Training
Our hospital focuses on basic and clinical professional integration, integrates teaching methods such as problem-based learning (PBL), clinical skills, evidence-based medicine to implement bedside teaching. We also emphasize hands on practice, combine information technology and inheritance of experiences about clinical practice, construct medical simulation and learning community of teachers, cultivate professional values of medical students and teachers, and expand "inter-professional" education and practice. In order to implement evidence-based medicine promotion and used in this hospital, the competition of evidence-based medicine is held annually and the results were outstanding. The effectiveness of implementation about the various categories of medical training was exceptional and has received numerous awards.
Our hospital has complete clinical teaching facilities and places to provide professional and specialized skill practice courses, which include 12 OSCE classrooms that has passed certification from national OSCE, 12 PBL classrooms, 200 basic skill simulating teaching aids, and high-stake simulators such as SIM MAN, SIM MA, SIM BABY, TRUMA MAN and LAP MANTOR. On average, we hold 30 skill courses every month and, there are more than 300 medical personnel and students that participate in this training. Our Surgical Skills Center also passed certification of Symbol of National Quality and national standards of GTP10015 (Good Training Place 10015) in year 2011 which is also the first excellent training center in this country.
Our hospital is mainly a practice training hospital for Kaohsiung Medical University. Each year, we accept more than 70 doctors to receive complete specific residency training and more than 1000 students from college of medicine, college of dentistry, college of nursing and other categories to practice. Moreover, since year 2012, two major integrated internship programs of "Infection and Tropical Medicine Disease" and "Oncology "in Kaohsiung Medical University have been selected as a 4 credits elective course of foreign internship credited by Medical School of Harvard University for the Harvard students.
Our hospital provides elective courses from 2 weeks to 8 weeks for foreign students since the year of 2002. There are about 50 medical students per year recently from Europe, Asia, America, Africa and Oceania to take the elective courses each clinical department, which includes subspecialties of Internal Medicine and Surgical, Orthopaedics, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Emergency Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine and so on.
