Division of Hepato-Bilio-Pancreatic Surgery

The Division of Hepato-Bilio-Pancreatic Surgery has eight board-certified physician surgeons. Professor Shen-Nien Wang now serves as the chief since August 1, 2015. Other staffs include Prof. King-Teh Lee, Chuang SC MD, Kuo KK MD, Chuang SC MD, Chang WT MD, Su WL MD and Huang CW MD.

Our division provides excellent clinical service (surgical resection, chemotherapy and target therapy) in patients with the inflammatory and cancerous diseases of liver, biliary tract system and pancreas. The common diseases we serve include gallstones, hepatolithiasis, obstructive jaundice, HCC, cholangiocarcinoma, metastatic liver cancers, acute/chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cancers, IPMN, NET and so on. In our division, we perform many minimally- invasive surgical procedures: laparoscopic and robotic surgery. With the advent of da Vinci system since 2013 April in KMUH, our team has completed more than 200 cases till now, involving single-site cholecystectomy, liver/pancreas resection and Whipple procedure. We also serve cadaveric/ living- donor liver transplantation and pancreas transplantation under a well-trained, skillful team, which consists of many other sub-specialties, such as radiologist, pharmacologist, pathologist, infectious and immunological experts, and nutritionist.

Furthermore, we work on the translational research, exploring the possible carcinogensis of HCC and pancreatic cancer. Hopefully, we can shed light in the development of new treatment modalities. Moreover, we provide a good training program and environment for resident surgeon and medical students about our specialty.
