The Department of Neurology provides service for all neurological diseases in terms of stroke, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, sleep disorders, headache, neuropathic pain, central nervous system infection, multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, motor neuron disease, spinocerebellar degeneration, peripheral neuropathy myopathy and other disorders of the nervous system.
The department belongs to the Institute of Neurological Sciences in the university-affiliated hospital which includes stroke center, sleep center, intensive care unit, and neurological laboratories. The neurological laboratories deal with eletroencephlography (EEG), 24h continuous video EEG monitoring (VEEG), polysomnography (PSG), electromyography (EMG), evoked potential (EP), extra- and trans-cranial duplex ultrasonography, neuropsychological assessment and tests based on molecular biology. These laboratories can help neurologists precisely diagnose all neurological diseases.
The department also offers high standard of treatment compatible with those neurological centers in countries of North America and Europe, characterized by thrombolytic therapy and thrombectomy for acute stroke, up-to-date drug therapy for dementia, deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy surgery, plasmapheresis for neuroimmunological diseases and multidisciplinary treatment strategy for sleep-disordered breathing including continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), oral appliance and sleep surgery.
