(I) Characteristics
Our division is the second specialty branching from dentistry recognized by Ministry of Health and Welfare of Taiwan and is one of the most complete specialty training institutions on oral pathology in Taiwan.
(II) Present clinic condition
Every year there are about 2200 oral and maxillofacial biopsies including frozen sections, regular hematoxylin & eosin staining and cytology. We exchange and discuss pathological slides with other international universities. For oral and maxillofacial radiology, 25,000 radiographies are taken each year. An oral digital radiographic system has already been launched to replace the conventional oral radiography in order to transmit oral digital imagings via internet amongst different departments of dentistry as well as hospital. An update cone-beam computerized tomography is introduced to provide the service of tomography. In addition to give the clinical diagnosis, we also provide the routine dental practices as well as the oral care of patients receiving radiation treatment and/or chemotherapy. Furthermore, we also participate clinical diagnoses and treatments of the special clinic of temperomandibular joint dysfunction syndrome and the teaching chief residents to implement the oral care of in-patients of our hospital.
(III) Teaching
Establish an electronic database on the digital teaching slides of oral pathology. Also, develop an oral pathology teaching web site (oralpathol.dlearn.kmu.edu.tw). Hence, the teaching of the oral pathology of our students and residents will match the global trend of digitization.
(IV) Vision
Encourage our colleagues to participating continue education programs, publish papers as well as attending the demostic or international conferences in order to develop the international views and to promote the academic standard of our division.
