Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology

Taiwan has become an aged society since 1993. As elderly population increases, “aging population structure”, “chronicity of diseases”, “growing disability health issues”, “complexity of care”, and “rising long-term care needs” will become the characteristics of medical care, health services, and social services.

To face the aging trend and accompanied health issues, Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology has been set up since August 1st, 2010. We integrate geriatrics-trained staff from the Department of Internal Medicine, the Department of Family Medicine, the Department of Psychiatry, the Department of Neurology, the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, the Department of Nursing, the Department of Social Service, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Department of Pharmacy to form an interdisciplinary team. We aim at providing a holistic elderly health care by a patient-centered medical model, interdisciplinary teamwork and good communication skills. We also connect geriatrics and gerontology resources in Kaohsiung Medical University and offer a comprehensive geriatrics learning setting and an innovative research platform.
