Department of Otorhinolaryngology

  

        The Department of Otorhinolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery was established in October 1957.  Our mission is to provide professional and high quality medical services for patients with ear/ nose/ throat diseases, as well as head and neck tumors or cancers.  All medical professionals in our department are enthusiastic in providing good services on community health education for cancer prevention and mass screening projects for early detection.  Our department is well equipped with surgical microscope, pure tone audiometer, impedance audiometer, evoked response audiometer, ENG in otology/audiology.  Flexible nasopharyngolaryngoscope with videorecording system, sinoscope, and rhinomanometry in rhinology. Our laryngology-head & neck surgery section provides world quality intra-operative neuromonitoring (IONM) system for recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) and facial nerve (SNQ Award, the first Asian-Oceania leading hospital),  laryngeal stroboscopy with digital voice analysis, rigid and flexible laryngoscope and tracheoesophgoscope, Diomed and CO2  laser, phonatory ability test machine and the upcoming of Da Vinci for transoral robotic surgery (TORS) in 2016.  Besides providing the most advanced and sophisticated clinical services to the general public, both clinical and basic researches are fullly inplemented along with the basic scientists of KMU, as well as  the full time training programs for residents and medical students.

        As we are fully commited with our social responsibility, we provide not only full time outpatient clinics and inpatient services of our three branch hospitals, Kaohsiung Municipal Hsiao-Kang Hospital, Ta-Tung Hospital and Cijin Hospital, but also are closely affiliated with the ENT services of Pingtung and Chishan Hospital, Department of Health, Executive Yuan. We support the local services in three medical clinics for aborigines in the remote mountain areas, and closely collaborate with the teaching programs and services at other three specific clinics and regional hospitals.
